Most of the horses donated to Brook Hill Farm begin their stay in our rehab program. They are evaluated by many professionals including a veterinarian, a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, and a farrier. The staff and trained volunteers then work together to make a plan for each horse based on their individual needs.

Due to the quality of our horses and the fact that we give them away for free (according to the rules set forth by Brook Hill Farm), we have a waiting list for their adoption.

Rocky

Age 8
Thoroughbred
Height: 16.1 Hands

- Previous training: Intro Level Hunter or Pleasure Horse

- Current Condition: Excellent

- Rehab Program: Rocky had stifle surgery in 2007 that was a complete success! He has an old coronary band laceration that requires moisturizing to keep the skin supple for healthy hoof growtrh on a tri-weekly basis.

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs: Rocky is a very sweet horse who is phenomenal in the pleasure division - he prefers the flat over jumping. He is tons of fun, and does not have a mean bone in his body!

FlyBoy

Age 16
Thoroughbred/Hanoverian Cross
Height: 17.2 Hands

- Previous training: 4th Level Dressage

- Current Condition: Good

- Rehab Program: FlyBoy suffers from arthritis that is typical of a horse his age. He is stiff in his left front shoulder that he works out of with exercise. The Vet has recommended in IM glucosamine loading dose, followed by maintenance and a conditioning program focused on overall fitness.

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs: FlyBoy is a delight - he can be fancy or ride on the trail on the buckle. He can shy or be exuberant, but he never bucks or rears. I do not think he will hold up to serious training and showing, however he would be wonderful for the amateur who wants to learn and have a fancy dressage horse to take out and show for fun.

Xavier

Age
Andalusion Cross Gelding
Height: 16 Hands

- Previous training: Dressage

- Current Condition: Good

- Rehab Program: Xavier had a suspensory tear in 2005 - and has been turned out ever since. The tear has healed, and he is being put back to work. We have been working at the walk and the trot, and will add the canter soon.

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs: Riding Xavier is like floating - his movement is amazing - he leg yields, shoulder/haunchs in, and does an amazing half-pass. I can only imagine what else he can do! This is one special horse! He is not for the beginner, as every movement you make means something!

Albert

Age 11
Haflinger Pony
Height: 13.3 Hands

- Previous training: Eventer Pony

- Current Condition: Excellent

- Rehab Program: This pony just needs a new job! His previous owner has outgrown him. He is not for the beginner

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs: Albert is personality plus! He is not suited for a beginner, as he will take advantage and do what Albert wants to do. He needs a strong rider to be in charge, and then he is wonderful. He is best when kept in consistent work. He is a wonderful Intro level eventer with a strong rider. He also has amazing flatwork having done some training level dressage. He is good on trails, and just fun to be around!

Albert, what a guy

with his rehab rider

John-Boy

Age: 16
Black Thoroughbred Gelding
Height: 16 hands

- Previous Training: 3" Hunter, Equitation, Jumper

- Current Condition: Excellent

- Rehab Program: John-Boy has come back into our program due to his new owner not being able to continue his care. He is in excellent shape, and has spent the last few months doing walk-trot-canter and jumps up to 2' with his foster mom. He is ready to continue his job, making some lucky leaser a wonderful horse! He does hate to be in a stall, so his new home needs plenty of turn-out!

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs:
With 24/7 turn-out, this horse will make a wonderful Pony Club mount. His movement and jump are wonderful!

Stretch

Age: late teens
Bay Trechaner Gelding
Height: 18.2 hands

- Previous Training: Eventing

- Current Condition: Guarded

- Rehab Program: Stretch came to us from Maine, underweight and neglected. Thanks to a wonderful lady in Maine, he was sent to us for his rehab work. Stretch is a work in progress - the more weight he gains, the better he is. He is on a special feeding program, adding light exercise to build muscle as well as fat.

- Prognosis: Good

- Possible Jobs:
Stretch has a heart of gold - he wants to be so good. At this point we can tell that he has advanced training, but we have a long way to go (at least another 500 lbs) before we know what he will be able to do!

what a gorgeous face

Red

Age: late teens
Heinz - the best kind!
Height: 15 hands

- Previous Training: School Horse

- Current Condition: Still underweight, but sound and gaining

- Rehab Program: Red is under a special feed program aimed at weight gain. We are working him lightly under saddle to also build muscle. He is progressing nicely!

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs:
Red is special - he adapts his riding to the level of his rider. I have seen him babysit beginners - carrying his special cargo, making sure they are safe, and then a more experienced rider gets on, and he is ready to go. He does tend to move around on the ground, otherwise I would recommend him to a therapeutic riding program. He is not bad, just curious! Horses like Red are hard to come by, and are worth their weight in gold!
