Most of the horses donated to Brook Hill Farm begin their stay in our rehab program. They are evaluated by many professionals including a veterinarian, a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, and a farrier. The staff and trained volunteers then work together to make a plan for each horse based on their individual needs.

Due to the quality of our horses and the fact that we give them away for free (according to the rules set forth by Brook Hill Farm), we have a waiting list for their adoption.

Please note that our adoption process is thorough and lengthy. We require an initial farm visit, interview, and a completed free lease application. The goal of the farm is to place horses within a lifetime lease, and to match the horse and rider based on both parties experience

Vern

Age: 21
Appendix Red Dunn Gelding
Height: 16.1 Hands

- Previous training: Field Hunter, Pony Club horse

- Current Condition: Getting Better.....

- Rehab Program: Vern came to us after his previous owner rescued him out of a bad situation. He was a grade 2 on the body condition score. Surprisingly, he is sound. He needs a lot of groceries, and put back into gradual work. You can tell this horse was something special before he came upon hard times!

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs: Once he puts on the weight, Vern could go back into light work. As there are no lameness issues detected at this point, he will be able to do lower level disciplines on a maintenance dosage of glucosamine. This is a very talented, nice horse, and would be a wonderful entry level mount in any discipline.

Vern

pretty palomino

Dorado

Age: 6
Quarter Horse Palomino
Height: 15.2 hands

- Previous Training: Ground work only

- Current Condition: Getting better.......

- Rehab Program: Dorado came to us as a rescue, having been sold "as is" - We are currently evaluating him, but have not detected any serious problems besides being underweight and not ridden. We have started him under saddle.

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs:
Dorado has a great brain. Someone has put a lot of time into groundwork on this horse. We will keep everyone updated on his progress, and as we learn more about him, will try to decide which jobs would be best!

John-Boy

Age: 15
Black, Thoroughbred Gelding
Height: 16 hands

- Previous Training: 3' Hunter, Equitation, Jumper

- Current Condition: Excellent

- Rehab Program: John-Boy came to us with mounting issues, and bucking after the jumps. The chiropractor found 3 ribs out under the saddle area, giving him great discomfort. Since the chiropractic work and 24/7 turn-out, his bad behavior has stopped. We are presently increasing his time under saddle to be sure we have fixed the problem!

- Prognosis: Excellent

- Possible Jobs:
With 24/7 turn-out and chiropractic maintenance if behavior deteriorates, this horse will make a wonderful Pony Club mount. His movement and jump are wonderful!
