Map and directions to Brook Hill Farm
Tucked away at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in rural Virginia lies Brook Hill Farm, a sixty
acre property where injured horses are given the opportunity to rest, heal, and start new lives. Many of these animals are former high level show horses that once performed at the highest level of their discipline. Due to physical injury or psychological issues, however, these top athletes no longer meet their owners' needs. These animals slip through the cracks of the traditional horse rescue network since they have not been abused or neglected. Unfortunately, these animals rarely find their way into loving homes and all too often end their lives at slaughter.
Brook Hill Farm, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has provided a safe haven for these
talented horses for the past sixteen years. Once a donated horse arrives on property, the healing process begins. We begin by consulting with many professionals including, a veterinarian, a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, and a farrier. The staff, United Neigh members, and trained volunteers then work together to make a plan for each horse based on their individual needs. Once a horse is declared sound, it is either placed, at no cost, in a loving home that meets the requirements set forth by Brook Hill's board of directors or used in the United Neigh program.
Our rehabilitated horses go on to live productive and fulfilling lives with their new owners. Most of our horses are able to re-enter the show world with the loving guidance of a dedicated United States Pony Clubber or 4-H participant. These young people benefit from the opportunity to learn from a well trained animal and often go on to compete at the highest levels. Once an animal has been placed in a home, Brook Hill tracks it throughout its life to ensure that it is treated in a loving and humane way.
