Educational Opportunities abound for college students at Brook Hill Farm. Not only is it important to rehabilitate unwanted horses, it is also our responsibility to educate the public on the plight of the unwanted horse. Brook Hill Farm maintains a unique opportunity for personal growth and equine education for area youth and adults, and is pleased to offer the following college programs:
Educational opportunities in collaboration with regional schools including Virginia Tech, Randolph College, Lynchburg College, Sweet Briar, and Liberty University are provided for college students to participate in internships earning them college credit in many fields. Students from other colleges and universities are welcome, provided they can provide their own housing.
Pre Vet and Vet Tech students needing hours working with large animals are welcome, and are given their own "case" load in conjunction with the Staff and Veterinarian.
We have Biology students and students interested in Pre-med studies also pursuing internships at Brook Hill Farm. These students get hands on large animal experience to help them get into Vet School.
Many college interns with backgrounds in Psychology, Sociology, and Counseling are interested in working with our Equine Assisted Activity Programs.
Others are getting experience working with students in our United Neigh program in the classroom, helping participants with all their high school subjects.
We work with each college student to tailor their internship to meet their needs. If you are interested in a college internship at Brook Hill Farm, please look over our College Intern Informational Packet or email email@example.com.
Brook Hill Farm is proud to offer training and hours towards PATH Certifications for a student interested in becoming a Registered Instructor or an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. Requirements for these certifications are listed on the PATH website. Many Colleges require Community Service Hours – Brook Hill Farm welcomes these students and guarantees their hours with hands-on experience.
Brook Hill Farm has offered the "Introduction to the Horse" at Central Virginia Community College, a course providing basic information on anatomy, physiology, nutrition, care and diseases of the horse.
In the fall of 2016 we hope to partner with Randolph College and offer a course on Equine Assisted Therapies.
